Clyda Jean Hartman Jaquith, a long-time resident of Modesto, died peacefully in the early morning hours on Saturday, April 29, 2017 of natural causes at Memorial Hospital. She was 88 years old.
Jean was born September 19, 1928 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Clyde and Clara (Talley) Headley. When her family moved to California, they settled in Ontario where Jean graduated from Chaffey High School. She married her first husband, Jim Hartman, on July 24, 1948. They raised their two daughters in Modesto. For most of her professional career, Jean worked as a Legal Secretary and transcriptionist until  her retirement. In her later years Jean married Jack Jaquith on March 24, 1998 and enjoyed 19 years of marriage.
Jean was a woman of deep faith and was active in her church community. She was a longtime volunteer with Community Hospice of Modesto. She was also a member of PEO International.  Jean was an avid bridge player and loved to cook and entertain family and friends in her home. She enjoyed travel, nature, reading, movies and attending live musical performances.
Jean is preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Hartman and her son in law, Peter Ugstad. She is survived by her husband Jack Jaquith, daughters Gail Hartman Ugstad and Leslie Ann Hartman (Scott Bader), grandsons Jeff Ugstad and Brandon Ugstad (Jessica), and her great grandchildren Peter, Bayley, and Raine Ugstad.
A Memorial service will be held June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 547 Rose Avenue, Modesto, CA 95355. A private burial will occur in Pacific Grove, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice of Modesto, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA, 95356.
