Eugene Francis Herschelman was born on July 26, 1932 in Michigan to parents, Wesley and Kathryn Herschelman.  He passed away on Feb 22, 2017 in Modesto, Ca at the age of 84.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 4 years, Mary Brazil of Modesto, Ca.; children, Mildred Seals of Pittsburg, Ca., Millie Jose of San Diego, Ca., Ernie Inductivo of Manteca, Ca., Citajean Lawrence of Trinity, Ca., Wesley Herschelman of Antioch, Ca., and Peter Herschelman of Concord, Ca., Teresa Moore of Los Angeles, Ca., and Genie Goodwin of Portland, OR and his children's spouses; sister, Barbara Shaw of Texas.  Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Kathryn Herschelman.
Gene was a man of faith, family, country and creativity.  He was an avid Bible student and teacher, part of the Catholic Charismatic Movement and a lay minister for over two decades.  He was a devoted family man, married 53 years to Pacita, father of eight, whole-heartedly involved in his children, twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren's lives.
He was a member of the Coast Guard, an active reserve police officer and a machinist for the Naval shipyard working on our country's defense systems. Gene was a creative genius who provided for his family by designing and building anything ranging from experimental aircraft, boats, woodworking, leather goods, clothing and toys.  (There were A LOT of children)
For the last five years he resided in Modesto with his wife Mary Brazil enjoying the simplicity of outdoor ranch life together.  Their love brought another level of peace and fullness to them and their families.
Franklin and Downs Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Herschelman family.  A service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017. At 9:30am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto, Ca 95355.  His final resting place will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch, Ca.
