Vernice Clinton went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2021 at the age of 90 in Modesto, California. Son of Coe and Dora Clinton, Vernice was born on April 2, 1930 in Cooksville, Tennessee. He was married to the love of his life for 51 years, Olivia Virginia Clinton (Flores). Together they raised Rick Unruh of Oakdale, California and Judi Armstrong of Modesto, California. Vernice is survived by 4 of his 8 siblings; Verbon Clinton of Greeley Hill, CA, James Clinton of Madera, CA, Donald Clinton of Le Grand, CA and Clara Brochinni of Chowchilla, CA. Vernice was preceded in death by brothers Billy and Fred Clinton and sisters Dorothy and Louann Clinton. Vernice has 6 grandchildren; Cindi Booth of Medford, OR, Ricky Unruh of Modesto, CA, Robert Armstrong of Hewitt, TX, Justin Armstrong of Stephenville, TX, Christine Byard of Rocklin, CA, and Maria Delavan of Conroe, TX. He also has 5 great grandchildren; Dane, Easton, Hudson, Colette and Baby Elle.
Vernice was a hardworker and retired from Central Ready Mix after 42 years of service. He was a wonderful father, brother, son and parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He loved fishing, hunting, bowling and gardening. He also loved attending the Portuguese Festa Celebrations up and down the valley. He loved dancing at the festas where he met Olivia. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
A Vigil Service will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25th at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Ave., Modesto. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 26th at Our Lady of Fatima 505 W. Granger Ave., in Modesto, with a committal to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., in Hughson. There will be a reception further honoring Vernice at the Fruit Yard in an outdoor tent, at 7948 Yosemite Blvd., in Modesto.
