Modesto, California - Tommy Joe "Tom" Albritton was born December 21, 1947 to Lemuel "Slim" Albritton & Betty Jane Bailey (Asher) in Modesto, California.
Tom served honorably in the US Army. Tom attended Air Traffic Control (ATC) school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. Tom deployed to Vietnam in September 1967.Tom was assigned to the 125th Air Traffic Company at the 25th Infantry Division base camp at Tay Ninh. Tom was known as "Pussycat" by his fellow air traffic controllers.
When Tom returned to Modesto he made a career as a group supervisor for Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall, retiring after over 20 years of service as a peace officer.
Tom is survived by his daughter: Valerie S. Albritton-Suarez (Alfred) of Morgan Hill, CA, grandsons: Thomas J. Maceira of Sacramento, Ca., Isaiah S. Scott, Cain M. Ortiz of Modesto, CA, Jose "Tony" Ortiz III of Morgan Hill, CA., Benjamen R. Ortiz of Morgan Hill, CA., siblings: Linda S. Smith of Long Beach, MS, Kathy Laing (John) of La Grange, CA, Kermit Albritton (Susan) of Cottonwood, CA, John Asher Jr. of Long Beach, MS, Laurie Walton (Bob) of Modesto, CA, Jeff Albritton (JoDee) of Hughson, CA. He is loved and missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Tom is preceded in death by: Father Lemuel "Slim" Albritton, Mother Betty Jane Asher, Stepmother Annetta Albritton Gipson, Stepfather John Richard Asher, Stepmother Jottie M. Teeple, Sister Andrea Muratore. Brother Danny Albritton, Brother Michael Albritton.
A memorial service with military honors will be held Tuesday July 13, 2021 @ 10am at Franklin & Downs McHenry. A celebration of life reception will follow the service. We will be remembering Tom by wearing the colors of his beloved Saints football team, this is not required.
