Thomas Olinares

April 14, 1940 ~ February 16, 2020 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

Thomas Olinares passed away in Modesto California at the age of 79.  He resided in Modesto for the last 58 years.  He drove for Fairbanks Trucking for 32 years and retired in 1997 but continued to work part time with them until 2001.  Being on the road and driving was his second love whether it be in a semi-truck, on a motorcycle or pulling his fifth wheel along with a boat behind his dually to take his family camping.

He was second born son of Gregorio Olinares (deceased) and Elva Boyd (deceased). When not on the road his favorite pastimes included fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, guns, loading ammunition, hunting, collecting and watching movies especially Westerns, playing poker, cheering on his favorite sports teams and was forever the family handy man.  If something was broken dad/grandpa/Uncle Tommy could fix anything.

He is survived by his wife of 58½ years Ramona Olinares, daughter Wendy Strandwold, Kristie Lowe and husband Brent Lowe, grandchildren Colton Humphrey, Tyler Strandwold, Logan Olson and Melayna Olson.  He is also survived by one great-grandchild Evelyn Humphrey.  He was preceded in death by his first born daughter Sheri Olinares.

We will forever miss his gregarious laughter and silly sense of humor.  He raised his three daughters to be strong, independent and self-sufficient.  He had a teddy bear heart for his girls however when it came to his grandkids they could do no wrong.   His zest for life never left him.  A prime example of this is he zip lined for the first time in life at age 68 while on vacation in Jamaica.  He will always be remembered for being the BBQ aficionado and for his amazing egg pancakes and macaroni salad.

Services have been scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Franklin and Downs 1050 McHenry Avenue Modesto, CA at 4 PM.  A Celebration of Life Dinner will be immediately following the service at Rancho de Pancho 4616 Oakdale Road, Modesto CA.
