Dr Roger Mathews Vogelzang M.D.
July 21, 1931 ~ October 31, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years OldDr. Roger M. Vogelzang passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 31.
He was born in San Francisco, CA to John H. and Hendrika Vogelzang, both immigrants from the Netherlands. He was the youngest of four children.
He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley, completed medical school at UC San Francisco, was stationed as a Captain at Sheppard Air Force Base, then completed residency at UCSF. In 1964, he and his wife, Vernagene, moved to Modesto where he joined McHenry Medical Group. At Doctors Hospital, he served as Chief of Staff, Chief of Medicine, and Chairman of the Board. As a member of the Stanislaus County Medical Society, he served on review committees.
He was a member of Kiwanis International and of the Stanislaus Masonic Lodge #206.
Dr. Vogelzang was an expert machine technician, and enjoyed designing and building steam engines in his home workshop.
A compassionate physician who worked tirelessly on behalf of his patients, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Vernagene, his children Paul (Gretchen) of Oak Hill, VA, Janet (Mark Cliggett) of Seattle, WA, Jeanie (Barry Sinervo) of Aptos, CA, and five grandchildren, Paul Taylor, Avery, Will, Wyatt and Ari.
Funeral Services will be at the Franklin and Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Ave., Modesto on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice: hospiceheart.org.
