Robert Henry Offermann

Bob was born on September 13, 1921 in Concord, California.  He was the youngest of three sons born to William and Mabel Offermann. 

Bob graduated from Shandon High School in 1939 and attended the University of California, Berkeley.  He left college to enlist in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in England as a bombardier in the 94th Bomb Group.  He flew 32 missions on a B-17, 20 of which he was the lead bombardier.

After the war, Bob returned to the University of California, Berkeley and graduated in 1946.  He moved to Modesto upon graduation to work at The Grange Company.  Bob eventually became the president of The Grange Company Insurance Agency and in later years, president of the Hedberg-Offermann Insurance Agency.  He was an insurance agent and broker for 42 years in Modesto

.Bob married Margaret Michelotti in 1950.  They built a home and raised three daughters on a walnut ranch north of Modesto.  After Bob retired, he and Margaret moved into Modesto.

Bob was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society, 94th Bomb Group Auxiliary Association, California Independent Insurance Association, Modesto Independent Insurance Association (past president), Stanislaus County Safety Council (past president), American Legion – Post 74, Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph’s Senior Club, and Sons in Retirement.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Offermann, daughter Gail Friedrich, and brothers William and Paul Offermann.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Grant of Turlock and Nancy Marcotte of Los Altos Hills, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A Rosary will be held at 6 pm November 29 at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Avenue, Modesto and a funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am November 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Road, Modesto with burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
