Ramona Ann Davis

May 13, 1935 ~ July 25, 2019 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

Ramona Ann Davis (Strickland) was born on May 13, 1935 in North Chili, NY to her devoted parents Raymond and Doris Strickland. On July 25, 2019 Ramona passed away in Modesto, CA surrounded by her loving family. At the young age of 20, Ramona married the love of her life, Arthur, and they spent 64 amazing years together. Ramona and Art had five children: Chip Davis of Colorado, Carol Kenyon of California, LuAnne Crane of Colorado, Ken Davis of Colorado and Karen Bradford of California. Their children have blessed them with 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren -- and counting.

Ramona served in many roles throughout her life, the first and foremost being Mom to her children. She also worked at various churches as an Administrative Assistant to pastors, and faithfully volunteered at Modesto Church in the Park and Shelter Cove Church Children’s Ministry. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing and collecting vintage dolls.

Ramona loved to tell her family how she married Art and moved to Hawaii with only two week’s notice because he was stationed there and they could not live apart. She was proud of him, first as a Coast Guard officer and then as an Orthopedic Surgeon. She solidly supported and cheered him on throughout medical school. When her children came along, she was always the neighborhood mom who other kids wanted to hang out with, and all of her children were proud to call her “theirs.” Some of their earliest memories involve her creativity:  from homemade, hand-cut-out Christmas cards showing the North Pole with photos of her children posed as Santa’s elves, to rewriting words to songs that had meaning for just the family, to ironing funny cartoon faces peeking out of the pockets of their dad’s hospital scrubs. She deeply loved her family and kept up with all of the grandchildren individually - which was no small feat. Mom was proud to tell anyone she met, “Not bad for an only child to have 51 people in my family so far!” She served in the church her entire life – from working in the nursery when her own children were small, to helping in children’s ministries, to serving those experiencing homelessness in Modesto.

Her family’s deepest desire is that Ramona knew how much they all loved her; they truly did . . . and still do.  They sum it up by saying, “‘A good woman’ may be ‘hard to find,’ (Proverbs 31:10)… but we found her.”

The family thanks you for respecting their wishes for a private memorial.  Personal messages may be left on her Tribute Wall.
