Pauline J. Halliday was born the second of six children to Monta Perkins and Melvin Christian Jensen in Mantua, Utah. She grew up under the loving guidance of her grandparents, aunts, and uncles as she moved from Mantua to Brigham City to Ogden and then to Murray, Utah.
During high school, Pauline worked hard and became highly skilled in shorthand and at the typewriter. It was in her junior year at Murray High School that she met her future husband, Walker Dee Halliday. Following graduation, Pauline faithfully waited while Walker served a mission for the LDS Church but when his military draft notice threatened to separate them again, they married on June 14, 1951 before he left for basic training. Walker was assigned to a Counter Intelligence Corps Unit in Heidelberg, Germany and when he found out that his commanding officer was in need of a secretary, he wasted no time in making his wife's skills known and Pauline soon joined him in Europe for the remainder of his commitment to the US Army.
Pauline provided the family income as Walker attended the University of Utah and then the University of California at San Francisco Dental School. With graduation in sight, they welcomed the first of their four daughters. They moved to Modesto where they established a successful dental practice and a thriving almond ranch. Pauline balanced raising her family and doing the accounting/billing for the office and ranch with expert attention to every detail. Her home was always immaculate and inviting to anyone who might stop by for a visit and she had delicious meals waiting for her family every night.
Pauline was involved with the Stanislaus County Dental Auxiliary and their presentations to school children, the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and held various positions as a faithful member of the LDS Church.
She loved to travel, host family gatherings, knit, quilt and dote on her grandchildren.
Pauline is survived by her four daughters - Kay (Doug) Bohne, Janet (Dave) Berezay, Lisa (Tony) Marshall, Ann Halliday; 16 grandchildren – Chalyce (Ryan) Peck; Jonelle, Seth (Leia), Maren, Trent (Bethany), and Eric Bohne; Paul and Matt Berezay; Melanie (Dan) Gordon; Mike (Alissa) Berezay; Brady (Annie) Marshall; Jennie (Romy) Lakip; McKay (Kim), and Heather Marshall; Brittany Bunch; Torie (Parker) Finlinson; 10 great-grandchildren – Quincy, Corinne, and Thatcher Bohne; Brooks and Logan Berezay; Kenley and Madelyn Gordon; Andie and Charlie Marshall; Malia Lakip. She was predeceased by her husband, Walker, and grandson, Philip Bunch.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 11 am at the LDS Chapel at 800 Sylvan Avenue in Modesto. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
