Long-time Fresno, CA resident, Myranel B Hovland, more affectionately known as 'B', passed away Wednesday, June 27th, in Modesto, CA at the age of 92. She was born November 28, 1925 to Elmer and Anna Taggart in Merced, CA.
B worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for Hovland Advertising and The Outdoor Company in Fresno for 53 years. She was a long-time member of the Business Professional Women Foundation. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and then Evangelical Free Church, in Fresno, and was a devout Christian and woman of conviction. She used her gifts in several volunteer arenas throughout her life: working with children and teens at church events, teaching Sunday School classes, assisting with Brownies and Girl Scout troops, and doing office work at Evangel Home.
B was a lover of life and people, and had a bevy of friends with whom she kept in regular contact. When she wasn't working, B held an interest in various artful hobbies including writing poetry, plastercraft painting, floral arranging, holiday decorating, letter writing, tole painting, knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, tennis, dancing, playing cards, walking, golfing, and traveling. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and she adored her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
B was a woman of exemplary character who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
B was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lloyd Edward Hovland, and sister, Emagene DeWitt. She is survived by her loving daughters, Carol (Brent) Hovland-Mitchell of Modesto, CA and Lora Hovland of Deer Park, WA; grandchildren, Lindsey (John) Levitsky of Ocean Park, WA, Blake (Elizabeth) Mitchell of Modesto, CA, Kyle Reich of Cheney, WA, and Ian Reich at Spangdahlem Air Force Base in Trier, Germany; and great-grandchildren, Natalie and Naomi Mitchell of Modesto, CA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 11th, at The Bridge Church, 3438 E. Ashlan Ave., Fresno, CA. Private interment will be held at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Susanville, CA.
