Manuel Marquez

   The first of four children to Nicolas and Genoveva, Manuel was born in Tyrone, New Mexico in 1925. At the height of World War II, he was drafted into the US Army and was deployed to England for the invasion of Europe. His military career spanned over 22 years and took him all over the US and most of the world. Manuel and Erika were married in 1962 and later that year welcomed their first child, Deborah. In 1964, a 2nd daughter, Veronica, was born. In 1965, Manuel was again called to duty in Vietnam. Upon arriving at the base, Manuel was informed that he had a son, Ricardo. In 1966, Manuel retired from active duty, and finished his service at Ft. Irwin, California.
In 1967, to be near Manuel’s parents, the family settled in Modesto. Manuel then embarked on his 2nd career at Gallo Winery, where he would stay over 20 years. After retiring from Gallo, Manuel’s last job was tending his garden.
   Nothing said about Manuel would be complete without mentioning his and Erika’s devotion to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and to the convent of the Sisters of the Cross.   
   Manuel is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws. He is survived by , Erika, his wife of 56 years, his children Manuel, Carlos, Deborah, Veronica and Ricardo, his brothers Juan and Miguel, his sister Esperanza Mendez, his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews .

Franklin & Downs is honored to serve the Marquez family. Mass will be on Friday, May 4th 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 709 J St, Modesto, CA. Interment at San Juaquin Valley National Cemetery will be private.
