Justine Vesta Kirkman Campbell of Modesto California passed away peacefully on November 12, 2021. She and Phyllis, her twin sister, were born on March 27, 1922 in Madera CA to Justus Elisha Kirkman and Vesta Maria Kauffman. After Vesta’s untimely death two months later, Justine and Phyllis were raised by their beloved paternal grandparents. In 1943 she married Wayne Ellis Campbell who immediately left to serve in WWII. After WWII and the Korean Conflict Wayne and Justine, with two small children in tow, went back to college, got their teaching credentials and started teaching in Modesto. After more than 30 years of teaching, she retired and decided to volunteer at the hospital, learn to quilt, be very active in her church, knit for charity and travel. Her trip to the Holy Land was the highlight of her travels.
When she lost her husband after 50 years of marriage, she realized there was a lack of support for widows. She started a widows group that was supportive and just plain fun. As the years passed she moved to Morgan Hill to be near her daughter. She has left behind her two daughters, Genevieve and Diane, her three grandchildren; Megan, Justin and Edna. Three great grandchildren; Ella, Madeline, Leona, extended family and many great friends who will sorely miss her.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 22nd at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Rd., in Modesto. Interment will be held privately at Acacia Memorial Park.
