Julio’s Eulogy
J.R.R. Tolkien writes “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Julio R. Lucas Was born August 10, 1946 in Palo Alto, California, to Ruth and Julio S.
Lucas. He died suddenly on October 10, 2021 in the arms of God while doing God’s
work. The “time given” to him was well spent, as his spirit radiated compassion, quiet
strength, kindness, loyalty, creativity, and faith in God. He gave these gifts
unconditionally to all with his characteristic modesty.
Julio is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Aydee Marquez Lucas. They
complimented each other beautifully, working together harmoniously through a lifetime
of faith and generosity.
Julio leaves his beloved son, Julio Lucas III (Rachel) and granddaughters Isabelle Z
(Hammie) and Abby P (Socks) Lucas.
He leaves his dear daughter Heidi Kratt (Bill) and grandchildren Alton, Jared, Jacob,
and Adelyn Kratt.
Julio embraced his brothers Chris Lucas, Gilbert Lucas (deceased), and Joe Gonzales,
his sister Delia Flores (Elias Calderon), Judy Gonzales (deceased), and Brenda Lucas.
Julio’s family includes his sister-in-law, Nancy De Santis and his
many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Julio’s life was a tapestry of many colors, sprinkled with humor, leadership, and
compassion.
He graduated from Woodlake High School and then attended Gavilan College, where
he was elected student body President and voted student of the year. While attending
these educational institutions Julio served as captain of the football, baseball, and
wrestling teams. Julio continued his education at Fresno State University, earning a
degree in Business Administration.
While attending Gavilan College, Julio met his life partner and the love of his life,
Aydee. They were married July 6,1968.
After college Julio was employed by Chevron Corporation, and was given collection
responsibility for large agricultural accounts.
In 1972 Julio became an entrepreneur and developed a successful delicatessen
business (Marquis International). In 1973, while living in the Bay Area, he was
employed by SER Jobs for Progress. Shortly thereafter he was promoted to the
National Office in Washington DC, where he was given responsibility for writing
government grants and also served as liaison to other government agencies. It was
while living in DC, he was nominated “Outstanding Young Man of America”. He
transferred to the Dallas Office prior to moving back to California.
Julio’s eagerness to serve humanity was met when he was hired as Western Region
Marketing Manager by the Singer Corporation’s education division to develop training
centers designed to retrain employees displaced by downsizing.
Continuing his fondness for the humanitarian, Julio became manager of the fulfillment
center for Catholic Charities, to provide employment for the disabled.
Julio also had a successful marketing and database management company
(Consolidated Business Resources) in Silicon Valley for over 20 years before moving to
Modesto.
Julio’s giving nature was demonstrated by his volunteer work with the Optimist Club,
Rotary Club International of Gilroy, and several Chambers of Commerce. Julio was a
faithful member of his church and proudly became an active member, holding various
positions and several years as a 4th degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
Julio was deeply devoted to his family. He served as President, Teacher, Student
Association during the time his children were in school.
Reviewing his considerable accomplishments, still, his family and friends consider
Julio’s greatest legacy to be his lifelong credo best expressed by this unknown
author….,,
“Use your voice for kindness,
Your ears for compassion,
Your hands for charity,
Your mind for truth,
Your heart for love.”
Julio was and is loved by all those who knew him.
He is with his maker, his Father, our God.
As Julio might say ….,
“Be good to each other.
We’re all just walking each other home.”
