Tribute

Joy Ann Dovichi

May 9, 1939 – October 14, 2021Joy A. Dovichi, age 82, passed away peacefully (by the grace of God) at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her family, on October 14, 2021, after a brief illness. Joy was born May 9, 1939, in Oakland, California (8 days after the love of her life Larry) and moved to Modesto in 1949 so her parents could fulfill a dream of owning a peach ranch, which they did on Coffee Road, and she became a valued ranch hand.

Joy attended McHenry and Sylvan Grammar Schools, graduated from Thomas Downey High School in 1957, and attended Modesto Junior College. She was the editor of the Downey Knights Herald and active on the student council, where she met many friends that to this day continue to meet monthly. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Teenage Group and enjoyed spending summers on her future in-laws, Chris Kraft Caviler boat, and bowling partner with her future father-in-law. Later in life, she and Larry joined Spring Creek Golf and Country Club, where she served as a board member and the 9-18 hole Captain.

Larry and Joy were married on October 3, 1959, in Modesto. Larry & Joy recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Joy worked at JC Penny’s in downtown Modesto, Hammett’s, and Rapid Shoe Repair, but her most extraordinary job was being a homemaker and raising their two daughters.

Joy loved traveling with friends whether to a mountain cabin, ocean and river cruises, Hawaii, Europe (especially Italy) Vancouver, Lake Louise, Yosemite, and Arizona golf outings.
Joy is survived by her husband Larry, daughter Andrea (Christian) Alzmann of San Rafael, daughter Lisa (Rob – deceased) Braden of Modesto. Joy had a special relationship with her in-laws, Lee Dovichi, Claire Simi (Mike), and Carole Dovichi, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents Edward and Alice Ferreria preceded her in death.
We wish to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Memorial Medical Center for making our loved one’s last days comfortable.
