Tribute

Jack (John) Tonjum was born in Santa Cruz on November 27, 1927 to Mabel and Jonas Tonjum. He passed away in Modesto at age of 93 on February 5th, 2021.

Jack was a World War II veteran who proudly serviced in the Navy at age 17 on the Battleship Wisconsin. In 1947 Jack met Peggy Wootan, the love of his life.  They were married in 1949 and welcomed son Dennis in 1950 and daughter Debbie in 1953. The Tonjum family settled in Stockton where they owned and operated the County Club Hardware store until 1961. After they sold the hardware store Jack began a career as a real estate appraiser with Ted Clark Realty, which lasted for over 60 years.

The Tonjums were charter members of the Sons of Norway Lodge in Stockton where they made many life long friends and always had great times.

Jack was preceded in death by his son Dennis in 1972, wife Peggy in 2015, and sister Betty Capp in 1998. He is survived by his daughter Debbie and son-in-law Denis of Turlock, grandson Andrew Robillard of San Luis Obispo, grandson Collin Robillard and his wife Cayla of Turlock.

A special thanks to the Prins family of Escalon and the Genzoli family of Hughson, who treated Jack like he was part of the family.

Special thanks as well to Valley Comfort (Nick, Mary, Connie and more) who took such loving care of Jack over the last 18 months.
