John Walter Baggett, Jr.

John Walter Baggett, Jr. passed away on Wednesday October 17th at his son’s home in Pine Grove California. He was 88 years old. John was born in Oklahoma on June 6th, 1930 to Lyndell and John W. Baggett Senior. His youth was spent moving from Oklahoma to Texas, Oregon, and Washington before finishing High School in Chico, California. He started college at Chico State but left to join the Air Force during the Korean War. He served in Okinawa before returning to resume his education. He worked as a meat cutter in college, resulting in the missing index finger that he used for many of his jokes. After graduating from Chico State he moved to Modesto to take a job as a business teacher at Downey High School. There he met the love of his life, English teacher Catherine (Kay) Conwell. Kay and John were married in 1959 and were blessed with the addition of two sons, John Walter III and Dennis Raymond. After Beyer High School opened, he transferred there as a guidance counselor where he remained until his retirement.

He was a scout leader and coach. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons at his coast house, duck club and watching them play sports. His family would like to sincerely thank the kind people who work at Hospice of Amador for allowing him to pass away at home surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Kay Baggett, his son Dennis Raymond, his parents, and his siblings Bonnie, Kate, and Fern. He is survived by his son John Walter III (Patti), grandsons Tommy, Dennis (Alex) and Jeep, as well as many nieces and nephews. His loss will be a big hole in their lives.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday October 25th, 2018 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Franklin & Downs 1050 McHenry Avenue Modesto, CA 95350. Committal services are private.
