Janine Marie Ratto

Janine “Neen” Marie Ratto: June 16, 1955 – September 14, 2021 (Modesto)

Janine Ratto – beloved sister, cousin, aunt and friend – passed away Sept. 14 at the age of 66 in Modesto.

Born in Oakland, CA to parents Genevieve and Antone Ratto (Gen and Bud), Janine was the oldest of four children. Raised in Modesto, she attended Downey High School and Modesto Junior College, earning an AA degree before attending the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. After returning to Modesto she worked as a licensed massage therapist and for Ciccarelli Jewelers, a family business, for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Antone L. Ratto III and Steven G. Ratto.

She will be remembered and loved by brother, Frank Ratto (Mollie), and nieces and nephews: Edgar Castillo (Kate), Nicholas Ratto (Jessica) , Michael Ratto, Geoffrey Ratto (Christin), Stevie Ratto, Matthew Ratto, Katherine Ratto and cousin Sandra Ciccarelli, her longtime best friend and roommate. 

Talented and creative, Janine had eclectic interests in everything from technology and pop culture to cuisine and animals, especially her dog Bella. But nothing in her life took a backseat to her profound devotion to her family; for decades she served compassionately as the caregiver to her father and siblings when they were suffering from severe health problems.

She was generous and selfless beyond measure. Anyone fortunate enough to know her would agree that she was a saint on earth and is now an angel in heaven.

There will be a viewing and rosary Oct 14 from 4-6 p.m. at Franklin & Downs
McHenry Chapel. A mass  will be held 9:30 a.m., Oct. 15 at St Joseph Catholic Church, Oakdale Rd. in Modesto.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Association, Community Hospice, ASPCA or National Ag Science Center.
