Tribute

Janet Shafer (Genasci), 79 passed away in Modesto, surrounded by her family on June 19, 2022. She passed two weeks before her 80th birthday. Janet was a good woman in many ways. She was a great wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and good friend.  She later became to be known in her family as ‘Gigi’.  This was well known by everyone, as she was good to many people in her life, whether someone she had just met or a lifelong friend. Her sanguine and cheerful personality made it easy for her to make friends anywhere and everywhere. From the frequent visitation and volunteering at thrift stores and garage sales, gardening interests at home and involvement in arts and craft clubs, or her passionate involvement with family, she connected to so many, and never failed to make anyone feel special.

Janet was born on July 2, 1942, in Modesto to Thelma and John Genasci, who are of swiss Italian descent, and had been operating a family dairy farm located in the Wood Colony area along with his brother, Oscar and Adeline Genasci.  Janet had lived and worked in the area and knew many people. She often kept people up to date and would oftentimes tell stories about times she’d worked over the years at Dunlops in Mchenry Villiage, Learners at Vintage Fair Mall, and from her tenure of over 25 years as a quality control supervisor at the California Almond Growers Exchange in Salida.

Janet is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronnie, and together with their children Marci Turner (Steve), Jeff Shafer, and John Shafer; She had seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Edwin Genasci (Della) and sister Dorothy Parker (Eldon).  She is preceded in death by her parents, Thelma(Martella) and John Genasci of Modesto.
