Tribute

Fred Jones was born October 31, 1930, in Dermott, AR to Pearl and Martha (Parker) Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters (Ida, Pearlie and Bessie) and 5 brothers (Earnest, Isom, Herman, John and Clyde).  He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Vanessa (Jones) Lindsey of Modesto, CA and son Fred A. Jones and daughter in-law Kimberly Caesar-Jones of Oakland, CA, 5 grandchildren Ryan, Briana, Jerrel, Jaylen and Jeremy, 6 great-grandchildren Robert, Sar’ai, Elias, Jaezlyn, Kyrie and Jesenia, two sister in-laws, Dolores Jones of Seattle, WA and Oletha “Honey Punch” Jones of Dermott, AR and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Fred attended high school at Dermott High School in Dermott, AR.  After graduation, he served as Vice President on the Class Reunion committee until he resigned his position in 2014.  He served in U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 – 1953.  Thereafter, he remained active in the U.S. Army Reserves until he retired Command Sergeant Major on 31 October 1990.  He entered Federal Service on 22 September 1955 as a Helper Aircraft Mechanic at Alameda Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA.  On 16 November 1961 he transferred to Mare Island Shipyard in Vallejo, CA as a Helper Shipfitter.  At the time of his retirement on 1 November 1986, his position was Pipefitter Foreman in Shop 56.  He completed over 30 years of Federal Service.  After retirement he spent several years working part time at the Oakland Coliseum for Pro Staff Private Security as a Supervisor.

He was a fan of the Oakland A’s, Oakland Raiders and Golden State Warriors. He loved playing Blackjack at the casinos and attending the horse races. He also loved traveling to visit family. We all have been blessed to have him for 91 years.  Fred will be loved and missed by many.
