Farrell Lee Jenkins
September 21, 1932-April 14, 2022
Our beloved Farrell entered into rest, with family by his side, at Memorial Hospital in Modesto, California on April 14, 2022. Farrell was born in Cedar County, Missouri to Adrian Cecil Jenkins and Zula Hannah Potts. They moved to Brawley, California when Farrell was 2 weeks old. His family included one brother, Larry Merle Jenkins, born in Brawley. The family moved around a lot during his childhood working in fruits packing sheds. They finally came to Modesto, California in 1944 to build their home on Coffee Road.
Farrell attended Sylvan Union Grade School. He graduated from Modesto High School in 1951 and later earned his Associate’s Degree from Modesto Junior College. The U.S. Navy was his home from 1954-1956. He joined the Modesto Fire Department in 1956 and went on to retire as Battalion Chief in December 1956, after 30 years. He was a man of strong loves and lifelong friendships. Farrell loved the Fire Department and his brothers in service, which included his brother, Larry. He was very proud of their combined abilities and knowledge.
Farrell loved to travel. He and his current wife, Pat, spent 39 wonderful years together traveling, camping and overseas trips to 26 countries. Pat lovingly called him a “gypsy” because of his love of traveling.
After several years of pain and blindness, he went on to join friends and family—preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry, his first wife Geraldine Lousie Jefferies, which he shared 3 children. Those left behind are his children, Jeff Jenkins, Vicki Vanaman, Jill Jenkins, and one stepson Brad Walters (Teri); 4 grandchildren, Sara (Billy) Munson, Kari Vanaman, Ben Walters and Caitlin (Jon) Libby. He had 7 great grandchildren, AJ and Dakota Vanaman, Jacob, Sean and Emily Hawley and twins Jessa & Zander Vanaman. He was blessed with his honorary son and wife, Dale and Georgia Davenport, also of the Fire Department family.
Funeral Services will be held on May 5, 2022 and 10 am at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Avenue, Modesto, luncheon to follow. Remembrances may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children or your choice of charity.
