Tribute

Evelyn J. (Bacon) Zimmerman passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 28, 2020.   Born March 10, 1929 in Modesto Ca. to parents Arthur Cecil Bacon and Katie J. (Johnson) Bacon.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund Charles Zimmerman of 62 years and her daughter Carolyn Jane Martin (Joe) and 4 brothers, Herbert, Alonzo, Clarence “Buck”, and Jack Bacon.

She is survived by her son Howard E. Zimmerman (Angie), 4 grandchildren Renee Rantz, Craig Mastropierro (Malissa) , Matt Zimmerman (Kim), Caitlin Ibarra Zimmerman and 2 grandchildren by marriage Sheri Ribeiro (Mark) and Mike Henderson (Jenny) and  13 great grandchildren. To say her extended family was full would be an accurate statement.

Evelyn went to Elementary school in Ceres and graduated from Ceres High School.   She met the love of her life Edmund Zimmerman (also known as lead foot) and married in 1947 and had two children Carolyn and Howard.

They built their first home in Ceres Ca. on Blaker Rd.  At one time grandpa and grandma and all 5 siblings had homes all on adjoining lots.  Over time all moved away and Ed and Evelyn were the last to leave at which time they built their forever home that they raised their children in and the home she passed away in.

Evelyn had many interests over the years including many hobbies, ceramics, glass art, cake decorator, master seamstress, in which her most current sewing project was making COVID masks for the community.

Evelyn worked over the years for John Ingles Frozen food and Blue Diamond.  She had a few business ventures in Z’s T’s “T” shirts and Evelyn’s Ceramics. She kept many family members busy with her adventures in making her crafts.

Ed and Evelyn loved to travel all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico.  Their drive to Alaska was particularly well talked about due to the fact that they drove the old Alaska Highway towing their RV.  They particularly enjoyed traveling in their RV and were members of the Free and Easy RV club for many years.

She was blessed with so many wonderful friends.  To meet her was to love her.   She loved playing cards and games at the Senior Center in Modesto with her friends.  She was a member of 2 red hat clubs and an exercise group until the stay at home order came out.

Evelyn lived a full and rewarding life until she joined the other Angels on July 28, 2020.  One life lived – many lives touched.

Arrangements will be made by Franklin and Downs 1050 McHenry Ave. Modesto, Ca.   Due to COVID restrictions a graveside service will be held August 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Acacia Memorial Park in Modesto Ca. with immediate family only.
