James Wendel Weatherford

James (Jim) Weatherford went home to be with the Lord on February 21st, 2017 at the age of 80.  He was born in Houston, Texas on March 21st, 1936 but settled in Arizona during his childhood.  As a teenager, Jim lived in various cities in California.  After serving in Korea in the United States Army, he returned to Modesto to marry his sweetheart, Elaine Diggins in 1957.  Jim faithfully served the Lord since 1959, ultimately becoming an ordained minister and serving in many church ministries, primarily at First Baptist Church of Modesto (now Crosspoint) and Big Valley Grace Community Church.  Jim worked in construction before retiring, and raised three children: Kaylene, Keith, and Kristi.  In addition to serving his Lord in various church ministries, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, RVing, camping, motorcycle riding, and reading.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine, and his three children and their spouses, Kevin & Kaylene Simonson, Keith & Rena Weatherford, and Chris & Kristi Hayden.  He was also a beloved grandfather and is survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  Jim was known for his wit and humor and was dearly loved.  He will be greatly missed.  Visitation will be held at Franklin & Downs McHenry Chapel on Wednesday, March 1st from 5:00-8:00PM.  Burial will take place at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Thursday, March 2nd at 2:00PM.  A Memorial in celebration of Jim's life will be held at Big Valley Grace Community Church on Friday, March 3rd at 11:00AM.
