Frank Louis Souza

Frank Louis Souza, age 82, passed away peacefully at his Modesto, California home on October the 8th, 2017. He was born to his much beloved mother Mary and father Tony, on October the 4th, 1935. Frank was a native Californian and spent his entire life living in the Central Valley.
Frank is survived by his three children, Sandra Bishop of Modesto, CA, Terry Peterson of Pacific Grove, CA and Anthony Souza of Rancho Murieta, CA, and their mother Wanda P. Souza of Pacific Grove, CA. He is further survived by four grandchildren, numerous young adults who loved him as if he was their grandfather, and most recently four new great granddaughters. Frank also leaves his much loved sisters Lucille Souza-Ortiz and Barbara Souza-Mercer, and an extended family of cousins, nephews and nieces, a treasured God-daughter, and a wealth of friends and neighbors whom he held very dear to his heart.
Frank shared many happy years with his dear love Monique Denino and her family, and her compassionate and loving care for him during his last months was an immense blessing within a very blessed life.
Frank had a life filled with fond memories ranging from hiking the woods of Ozark, Missouri, fishing with his son in Santa Cruz, crabbing with family in Reedsport Oregon, meandering through tasting rooms in the wine regions of Napa and Amador, to his numerous trips to France with Monique. But, Frank's most happy times were spent talking with family and friends at his kitchen table, or enjoying the calm of working on the landscaping projects in his yard. It has been an often repeated reflection since his passing that; "the shrubs in heaven are trimmed a bit tighter now".
Frank enjoyed a 40+ year career at Stanislaus Food Products and worked numerous extra jobs to allow him to provide more for his family. Frank then retired to a daily ritual of gardening and visiting with family and friends. Frank was active in the community and thoroughly enjoyed participating at events held by the Modesto Portuguese Pentecost Association and outings at the Old Fisherman's Club.
Franklin & Downs Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Souza Family. A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00pm with a rosary vigil beginning at 7:00pm at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Avenue, Modesto 95350. A Chapel Service will follow at 11:00am on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
