Effie Mary Flor passed away on June 30, 2017 at the age of 97. Effie was born on January 3, 1920 to parents Ed and Margaret Menghini in Phillips Coal County Oklahoma. Effie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years and 8 months, James Angelo Flor; parents, Ed and Margaret Menghini; sister and brother-in-law, Johnny and Mary Janicki; daughter, Margie Bode and late wife of grandson, Jim, Patty Bode. Effie is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Joe) Marcotte of Modesto CA; grandchildren, Joe (Karen) Marcotte of Billings, MT; Jim (Laura) Marcotte in Walnut Creek, CA; Gizelle Worley of Modesto, CA; Mike (Carla) Marcotte of Naperville, IL; Matt (Diane) Marcotte of Walnut Creek, CA; Jim Bode of Oklahoma City, OK; Lee Ann (Ken) Simpson of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren, Amy (David) Stordahl of Rochester, MN; Callie (Bryan) Steiger of Billings, MT; Ryan (Kayla) Marcotte of Ann Arbor, MI; James Marcotte of California and Ashland, OR; Olivia Marcotte of California and Omaha, NE; Benjamin Worley of Modesto, CA; Marcotte Worley of Modesto, CA; Jared Marcotte of Naperville, IL; Lauren Marcotte of Naperville, IL; Julia Marcotte of Walnut Creek, CA; Amanda Marcotte of Walnut Creek, CA; Linda (Bode) Stoddard and husband Tony of Oklahoma City, OK; great great grandchildren, Sabre Stoddard of Oklahoma City, OK; Tabin Stoddard of Oklahoma City, OK; Isabel Steiger of Billings, MT; and son-in-law Vernon Bode.
Effie married Jimmy Flor on June 6, 1937. They were married for more than 60 years when he died in February 1998. They had two daughters, Ruth Ann and Margie Lee. They worked very hard to make sure the girls received a good education. They were faithful Catholics all their lives, and kept their family active in the church. After her girls were grown and married Effie enjoyed attending senior extended education classes at the local college. One of her favorites was history. She and Jimmy attended several classes together including wood carving. She made most of the girl's clothes as well as her own until they began to make their own. She liked cooking for family and friends. They traveled extensively in the USA while visiting Ruth Ann, Joe and their family. Effie taught her daughters to care for their elderly neighbors and family members. She never met a stranger and had numerous friends who loved her. She and Jimmy lived in their mobile home on the grounds of the Midwest City Elks Lodge 1890 as caretakers from 1962 to 2006. She and Jimmy were active members of Elks Lodge and Little Deers. Effie moved to California to be near Ruth Ann and Joe in 2006 until her death on June 30, 2017 at the advanced age of 97 years. The family would like to thank all those who gave her such good care including her doctors, the staff at Sutter Memorial Hospital, and especially her caregivers at Casa de Modesto.
